Research and experience in the assessment and treatment of suicidal patients have continued to expand in recent years. The new knowledge base has resulted in several developments in how to assess or treat suicidal patients. This program will update participants on these developments, including (1) the role that cultural factors can have on suicidal behavior; (2) the value of an idiographic assessment; (3) the importance of social networks in understanding suicidal behavior; (4) practitioner self-care; and (5) therapeutic risk management. This workshop will review those changes and their implications for the assessment and treatment of suicidal behavior.
